I am so excited to share about an opportunity that God has laid on my heart for this summer. God has opened a door for a team from Penn Yan Bible Church to travel to Budapest, Hungary and volunteer at the Word of Life Camp directed by Tamas Mezei. Tamas has been supported by Penn Yan Bible Church for a number of years and this is the first time that a team is going to go help.
The camp is located about 1 hour east of Budapest. Last year the camp hosted 866 campers over their 7 weeks of camp. Over 700 students were given some form of financial aid while over 40 students were given a full scholarship for their week of camp. This is a major deal because camp is not simply a place where kids can come and have fun, but they also hear the gospel in a very powerful way. A major way that that happenes is through the use of volunteers.
Last year WOL Hungary used over 200 hungarian volunteers and 90 foreign volunteers. The purpose of the volunteers is to ensure the camps runs smoothly. Many of the hungarian volunteers help in the kitchen or dining room, while the foreign volunteers are tasked with assisting with some teaching courses, like english or a certain sport.
What would OUR team be doing you ask? I’m glad you did. Our team would be volunteering during their second week of camp which is geared towards 7-14 year olds. Our primary purpose would be to build relationships and share the gospel to the campers through english teaching, sports instruction, and participating in the meetings.
Our team consists of 4 kids under the age of 12. Why would we bring such young kids you ask? Glad you did. Their goal would be the same as any adult or teen that would attend; to share the gospel through relationship building; there is no one better at building relationships with kids than other kids.
The total cost for one person is $1,400. Our team consists of 9 people which brings the total cost of the trip to approximately $15,000. If you would like to partner with us and support us financially is very simple
